The PaRx program expanded to N.B., N.S. and P.E.I. so healthcare professionals in the Maritimes can formally prescribe time outdoors and national park passes as part of personal healthcare plans. The BC Parks Foundation's program's been growing in popularity across the country and it registered over 5,000 health professionals in five provinces since 2020. Doctors participating in the program say patients are more likely to follow through with instructions when they’re written down. PaRx doesn't replace traditional healthcare practices, it acts instead as a supplementary tool. It recently partnered with Parks Canada to allow licensed providers to each prescribe one adult annual pass per month. It asks prescribers to give priority to those who live close to national parks.
