About

This indicator is the percentage of acute care patients who reported that they always received adequate pain management.

Source

New Brunswick Health Council, Hospital Acute Care Survey

Calculations

This indicator is calculated by taking the sum of the weighted proportions obtained for the following two indicators: AU_PCT02_1 and AU_PCT03_1. This sum of weighted proportions is then divided by the sum of the weighted number of respondents to these same two indicators. The questions to which these indicators refer are as follows: 'During this hospital stay, how often was your pain well controlled?' and 'During this hospital stay, how often did the hospital staff do everything they could to help you with your pain?'. This composite score calculation methodology is the same as the one used by the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI).
