About

This indicator measures the median wait time in days, where half of the cases waited less than the median and half of the cases waited longer than the median before the cancer surgery was completed. The recommended 6 weeks for completion is based on the New Brunswick Clinical Acuity Model and is classified by the surgeon according to their priority level. Data is based on a 3-month reporting period and refers to the place of service (where the surgery is performed). Data is reported quarterly.

Notes

Wait times are calculated from the date that the patient and physician agree to the surgery and the patient is ready to receive it to the date of the completion of surgery and are collected through the Provincial Surgical Access Registry. This indicator does not include emergency surgeries. Timeframes during which the patient was not available to have surgery are excluded from the wait time calculations.
