About

This indicator is the percentage of citizens receiving home care services from the Extra-Mural Program who have experienced a positive continuity of care across hospital services, home care services and primary health, based on their responses to 3 individual questions in the survey.

Source

New Brunswick Health Council, Home Care Survey

Calculations

This indicator combines the responses to the following 3 individual questions related to the continuity of care: Did the staff at the hospital or rehabilitation center explain to you what services you would be getting? '(yes/no)', Does your personal family doctor or nurse practitioner seem informed and up-to-date about your home care services? '(yes/no)' and In the last 2 months, how often did Extra-Mural staff seem informed and up-to-date about all the care or treatment you got at home? '(never, sometimes, usually or always)'. This indicator is calculated by dividing the number of respondents who answered 'yes', 'yes' and 'always' by the total number of respondents who answered all 3 questions.

Notes

The 2021 edition of the Home Care Survey was conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic. While the pandemic did not influence the survey’s response rate, users are advised to use the survey data with caution, especially when creating estimates for small sub-populations or when comparing it to other editions of the survey.
