The New Brunswick Health Council (NBHC) is a provincial organization with a dual mandate of publicly reporting on the performance of the health system and engaging citizens in the improvement of health service quality.

We are looking for a Research Analyst to join our team in evaluating the performance of the health system. Under the authority of the Manager, Health Research Analysis, the Research Analyst will work on the analysis, public reporting and knowledge translation of indicators and information about population health from federal, provincial and local sources, as well as from the New Brunswick Population Health Survey and Student Wellness Survey that are managed by the New Brunswick Health Council. 

Detailed Description (Principal tasks and responsibilities)

The successful candidate will be leading research, knowledge production and public reporting related to population health through: 

  • Actively participating in research activities related to NBHC surveys (questionnaire design, interpretation of information and public reporting) as part of the Performance Measurement team
  • Contribute to the review, improvement and development of new indicators and contribute to the validation process of data and indicators.
  • Analyze data and indicators to draw observations and conclusions and develop content for public reporting.
  • Present and explain indicators and results of analyses in different contexts.
  • Develop content for knowledge mobilization of findings to various audiences.
  • Develop or support the development of strategic frameworks/conceptual models to support the measurement, monitoring, and evaluation of population health.
  • Make contributions to Council deliverables, reports, business plans and strategy.
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders in the province, as well as researchers, groups and institutes who work with these types of indicators.
     

Essential Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master’s degree in population health, epidemiology, public health, health sciences or in a directly related field. (An equivalent combination of education (minimum Bachelor level) and experience will be accepted).

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience in information and research analysis in the population health field.
  • A solid knowledge of population health indicators and their use in the development, planning, management, and evaluation of health policy.
  • Interpretation of statistical analyses, synthesis of information, and translation of data into public reporting.
  • Writing and developing content to report on observations and findings.
  • Questionnaire development.
     

Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both official languages 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Proven experience in working with data in Excel
  • Experience with software such as MS Office
  • Time management and organization skills
  • Good team worker but also able to work autonomously
  • Big picture thinker with good attention to details;
  • Good prior work record (performance and attendance);
  • Adherence to professional ethics and the values of the organization;
  • Respect the confidential policies of the NBHC.
     

Strengths:

  • Have a good understanding and experience with statistical software SAS or SPSS
  • Experience in health services quality and performance measurement
