Alberta Health's annual report for the 2017-2018 fiscal year points out that 52% of patients were placed in continuing care within 30 days of being assessed. However, that's well short of the province's target of 65% and represents the lowest figure in five years. The agency blames a 9% YoY drop in the percentage of Albertans obtaining an LTC bed to a provincial policy allowing clients to wait for a preferred bed. The Alberta government pledged to open 2,000 new LTC spaces, which it claims should positively impact wait times for continuing care.
