Alberta proposes separate licensing body for mental health professionals

The Alberta government introduced legislation that would establish a self-regulating body for mental health professionals called the College of Counselling Therapy. It would be responsible for determining licensing requirements, scopes of practice and treatment centre prices. Among those slated to become part of the new college are counselling therapists, addiction counsellors, drug and alcohol counsellors and child and youth care counsellors.
