The rate of reported sexual assault jumped 21% in Alta. last year. The province is now investing one million dollars towards a made-in-Alta. sexual assault DNA forensic evidence collection training program. This project will increase the number of healthcare providers in rural areas that are trained in providing sexual assault evidence kits. It’ll be piloted with a group of healthcare providers across rural Alta. At 6%, sexual violence is the least police-reported rate out of any crime in Canada.
