The Alberta government is providing $400,000 in funding to Native Friendships Centres to hire navigators to connect people with treatment, harm reduction and culturally sensitive wraparound services as it relates to opioid use. Navigators were hired in Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge and Grande Prairie. The province also says workshops, naloxone training sessions and educational material will also be provided to staff at Friendship Centres in 21 communities to improve substance-use awareness, prevention and access to culturally appropriate services for Indigenous people.
