The Alzheimer Society of Canada estimates that one out of five people cared for someone with some form of dementia. In a survey, 87% of carers relate that people don't understand the reality of their situation. Two-thirds express feelings of isolation and loneliness, mainly due to a lack of understanding from friends and colleagues, inadequate services and being excluded from treatment and care decisions.
