Geisinger Health will make DNA sequencing of individual patients a routine part of preventative healthcare at its facilities. The testing will form part of its standard screening tests along the lines of mammograms, colonoscopies and cholesterol checks regularly performed on patients to detect disease earlier. It says the genome can provide early warning signals for diseases and will be a part of wellness planning and health management moving forward. Officials expect as many as 10% to 15% of patients might benefit from testing.
