The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) brought in Dr. Denis Lennox to share his insight on transforming rural medicine. He toured northern Ontario and says he believes some strategies used in Australia to train more general practitioners could work there. Lennox will write a report on how his research could apply in northern Ontario and share it with NOSM. Dr. Lennox is one the founders of Australia’s Queensland's Rural Generalist Pathway, a project to recognize the unique discipline of practicing medicine in the most isolated parts of the state. He believes treating rural medicine as a specialty helped turn around a doctor shortage crisis. Since then project started, 110 doctors have started practicing through a five-year program to qualify as a rural generalist.
