More MRI and CT scans were completed in the province than ever before. The province performed 296,211 MRIs in the 2021-2022 fiscal year, up from the record of 252,527 MRIs performed two years ago in 2019-2020. Since 2016-17, the province saw wait times for MRIs cut by over half and the number of MRIs performed increased by 69%. As part its CT scan and MRI strategy, the province increased the hours the machines are running and increased the supply of essential personnel, such as technologists, to assist in performing exams. In April, the B.C. Institute of Technology and ministries of Health and Advanced Education established an MRI technologist bursary program helping students graduate earlier and enter the workforce sooner.
