The B.C. Ministry of Health is investing $75 million to expand respite care and adult day programs to both seniors and their loved ones with daily activities. Funding will be rolled out over three years to increase the number of respite beds, overnight care at home, and number of adult day program spaces, where hours of operations will be extended to provide services on evenings and weekends. A provincial seniors' advocate says the funding will allow 3,000 caregivers to have a respite bed for a week every month and more than 5,000 families will get programming not currently available.
