The B.C. government won't allow clinics in the province to pay individuals for plasma donations, if a bill introduced passes the legislature. Alberta, Ontario and Quebec already ban the practice of paying donors for their blood plasma, however, clinics are in operation in Saskatchewan and New Brunswick. Donors at Canadian Plasma Resources are paid $50 per donation. Under the proposed B.C. law, individuals could be fined up to $10,000 for a first offence, while companies could pay $100,000 for a first offence and $500,000 for each subsequent conviction.
