A B.C.-based patient advocate spent the last three years speaking about the importance of taking one's health into their owns hands. This follows years of treatment and the discovery of a brain tumour. She released her second book, Activate: How to Save your Life in a Complex Health Care System and provided a TEDx presentation on the same subject. She developed what she calls a simple system for effectively managing one's own health, called a T.E.A.M. approach, which implores patients to Track, Educate, Ask, and Manage their own healthcare.
