These quality standards are used by the province’s healthcare systems to guide opportunities for improvement. The standards include future-focused statements and indicators to measure progress and lead to better health outcomes. The province’s patient safety and quality council launched a quality standard focused on improving stroke care. It supports:
- People with stroke to understand key aspects of high-quality stroke care and to make informed decisions in partnership with their healthcare teams;
- Healthcare professionals to make decisions about appropriate care; and
- Healthcare organizations to examine their systems and policies and improve services.
Nine quality statements focus on specific areas of the patient journey where improvement can lead to better health outcomes.
