B.C. pilot project supports pregnant women who use drugs

The project at BC Women’s Hospital will introduce 15 beds for women facing addiction challenges during pregnancy, after childbirth and as new parents. The beds are being implemented using three distinct housing models that include stabilization, transitional housing and Indigenous-focused care. The hospital says the program will assess factors such as days spent in hospital, integration and connection to the community and the physical and mental well-being of the patient and their family. It hopes the pilot will offer insights in how to better support pregnant women and families beyond their time spent in hospital.
