Beginning in October, B.C. will be the first province to provide information about breast density to women and their doctors after their mammogram screening tests. Dense Breasts Canada says about 400,000 women in B.C. have dense breasts and many are unaware of it. A study recently found having "dense breasts" was the biggest risk factor of breast cancer in women. The information policy comes on the recommendation of a scientific review from the BC Cancer Research Centre. BC Cancer also plans to form a working group to create education and support tools for women about breast density, which will be rolled out in January 2019.
