A Vancouver family physician says Canada should consider this approach since nearly half of people who died from drug poisonings in the country last year had illegal stimulants in their system. Growing evidence supports prescribing psychostimulants to aid patients looking to reduce their reliance on the illegal stimulant supply. Even though no medication is approved for treating stimulant use disorder in Canada, prescribed psychostimulants are used off-label for this purpose on a small scale in certain parts of the country. He suggests broader implementation is needed.
