The Conference Board of Canada's Canadian Alliance for Sustainable Health Care launched the National Pharmacare Initiative to co-ordinate research, dialogue and consensus-building activities relating to universal access to prescription drugs. The NPI will begin with a roundtable in Ottawa on June 12 to develop a consensus on access standards, criteria and methodology for evaluating funding and delivery models, as well as innovation and investment strategies. Further more, a national pharmacare summit in Toronto on Nov. 22 will discuss options for a national pharmacare strategy. The NPI will be chaired by former Alberta health minister, Fred Horne.
