As part of its digital transformation project, England’s Southampton General Hospital is rolling out whiteboards for older people’s wards. The touchscreen technology displays information taken directly from a patient’s electronic record, including existing medical conditions, length of admission and predicted discharge dates. The system also identifies the issues preventing discharge when patients are medically fit to leave hospital. The electronic whiteboards will be rolled out across all wards by the end of this year. The project is part of a group of 16 acute digital centres of excellence selected by NHS England, known as Global Digital Exemplars, or GDEs.
