England to pilot launch of National Health Services app for video consultations for next year

The NHS Online app will allow patients to book appointments, check symptoms, order repeat prescriptions, access online for urgent care services and state their preferences for organ donation and data sharing. The plans include patients being allowed access to their own GP record. A later update to the app will permit patients to connect their Apple Watch or FitBit to the app and consult with their GP over video. England’s NHS Digital plans to pilot the app with the initial features in September with 2,000 patients from ten GP practices. The app's currently in its initial stage, but IT experts have taken a deeper look at some of design and functionality issues.
