Winnipeg Regional Health Authority's preliminary year-end monthly wait-times report for 2017-18 revealed ER wait times were down 16% compared to the previous year, however, median ER wait times climbed in March for the fifth straight month since the WRHA launched its hospital consolidation plans. The authority is expecting greater improvements to wait times after it implements the second phase of the hospital consolidation plan. The Manitoba Nurses Union believes the WRHA's changes aren't working as planned and says nurses are still working unprecedented levels of mandatory overtime. While WRHA doesn't track mandatory overtime, it states the number of voluntary OT hours staff are working is down to 284,814 across the region in 2017-18, from 402,453 hours in 2016-17.
