The SPECT/CT scanner at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax uses 3D imaging that allows physicians to diagnose and treat certain diseases, like cancer and heart disease, with enhanced precision. Nova Scotia Health says it’ll improve patient outcomes in Atlantic Canada as it’ll enhance efficiency and address wait lists and wait times for patients who need these types of scans. Right now, about 4,000 patients undergo nuclear medicine scans at the QEII each year.
