St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton was the first healthcare institution to take part in the Project AMPLIFI pilot project in 2020, designed to replace fax machines for clinical data transfer between hospitals and LTC homes with an electronic method. The hospital reports three-fourths of clinicians are satisfied with the system as it provides more time for frontline care. Most Ont. healthcare systems have software to store data but the AMPLIFI technology eliminates compatibility issues by permitting the transfer of patient records no matter which system is used. The province is moving away from faxes, which were at the forefront of hundreds of privacy breaches at St. Joseph's in 2020.
