Approximately 10% of the cancer drugs remained in IV tubing during treatment for almost 250 Horizon Health patients. Horizon said all patients or their families were informed by letter or phone call. The letter doesn’t indicate the time period the drugs were administered or how many patients would need to be treated again. A review by Cancer Care Ontario found that about 1,000 patients there may have been affected by a variation in dosage of IV cancer drugs. In Manitoba, a health agency reversed course after deciding not to inform approximately 175 patients who were also significantly under-dosed. Quebec is dealing with the same dosing problems but won't be disclosing how many patients are involved.
