Some of world's top cardiologists compared the impact that sugar has on health to how tobacco and smoking affected people over 50 years ago. They agree that banning companies involved in sugary foods from sports sponsorships, not giving government subsidies to unhealthy commodity crops and extending sugary drinks taxes (such as the U.K. sugar tax) to all foods with added sugars could help control the rising rates of metabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes and obesity.
