A study published in the journal Neurology involving over 393,000 adult participants indicates that individuals in the LGBTQ community may face a 15% higher risk of adverse brain health outcomes, such as dementia, stroke and late-life depression, compared to straight cisgender individuals. The study addresses the need for more inclusive medical research that goes beyond the traditional focus on white male patients and considers the diverse needs of the population.
