A report highlights LTC workers' needs and identifies areas of support for this sector. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, LTC workers experienced chronic stress and burnout. Recommendations include:
- Addressing the economic, social, intersectional and organizational structural issues brought to light during the COVID-19 pandemic;
- Supporting staff through continuing education and training to increase their capacity for both psychological self-care and protection from moral distress;
- Investing in leadership development;
- Rectifying all safety issues; and
- Developing or improving HR policies that build equity, increase benefits, address burnout and acknowledge the value of support workers.
