The role was developed as part of pilot project began in Jan. and the first group will be phased into hospitals across Winnipeg. Nurses, in turn, will be able to focus more on performing the tasks that require their specialized skills. Operating room assistants' sponsibilities range from decontaminating rooms and disinfecting equipment, to transferring and preparing patients safely for surgery, readying instruments and equipment during procedures and cleaning post-procedure. If successful, the project will be expanded to other hospitals.
