To understand a disease through the eyes of patients and help bridge a gap between the classroom and the hospital, medical students at McMaster University created an online platform, Stories of Medicine, to highlight patients’ experiences as they’re faced with various diagnoses, treatment options and management plans. The website features pages associated with the major fields within medicine, such as building a Calgary Guide to Narrative Medicine. The pages are grouped according to the disease or medical procedure and includes videos, podcast interviews, images, poems, books, blog posts and other forms of media featuring patient stories. The authors believe the tool can create more meaningful encounters and provide better care.
