The Mental Health Commission of Canada notes that a commitment by Ottawa to inject $5 billion over the next 10 years into mental healthcare is a positive step but that the 7% of healthcare dollars going to mental health is below that of other western nations. It renewed its call to include publicly-funded psychotherapy in the country's universal healthcare system. The commission contends the current user-pay system discriminates against those with low incomes or without private health insurance.
