With the Health Facilities Act, the province will be looking into moving cataract surgeries and possibly other surgical procedures where the need is high. A pilot program has cataract surgeries being performed already in private clinics in Bathurst and Miramichi. The province says the programs reduced the wait list for these procedures. To be sure services are properly overseen and operated equitably, surgical facilities outside a hospital must operate under an agreement with a regional health authority and be approved by the Department of Health.
