N.B. Premier Blaine Higgs met with the nurses’ union to find out how soon 25 nurse practitioners could be hired this year to reduce the list. The average number of people on the wait list for a primary care provider over the last two years was 17,000. Last July, the number reached 27,500. Brunswick News mentions the New Brunswick Health Council conducted a survey in 2017 that suggests four out of 10 patients with a family doctor or nurse practitioner can't get an appointment within five days. Another priority for the Higgs government this year is to eliminate billing numbers for doctors.
