Dr. Jennifer Russell says there’s cause for concern as gonorrhea rates are on the rise. Confirmed cases of the infection increased from 54 in 2020 to 254 in 2021. A few months into 2022, the province already recorded 64 cases. The province is encouraging the population, especially the 20 to 39 age group, to get tested. The executive director for AIDS New Brunswick says that, along with public messaging, greater education of sexually transmitted infections is an important component, as is greater accessibility to free contraception. The association also claims some have no idea where to get sexual health testing.
