While N.S. physiotherapists are now able to order their own diagnostic imaging, N.B.’s practitioners won't be able to follow suit. In N.B., if a physiotherapist believes a patient needs an MRI or an x-ray, that patient must see their primary healthcare provider. The New Brunswick Physiotherapy Association says allowing the change would free up primary care providers to take more appointments, as well as reduce non-urgent ER visits. The province told the association the idea requires further study.
