The health council's Primer on Access to Primary Health Care states there’s limited information available about the time primary care providers spend caring for their patients compared to other duties, such as after-hours clinics, hospital visits and non-clinical tasks. The council states that N.B. has the second-highest physician to population ratio in the country. NBHC also shows half of all family physicians in the province work in solo practices, well above the national average of 15%. To increase access to primary care, health council CEO Stéphane Robichaud says the province should move towards more team-based practices with primary care providers and other kinds of health professionals.
