The New Brunswick Nurses Union says people shouldn't be misled by a Nurses Association of New Brunswick report that 657 nurses were registered from Dec. 2022 to May to work in the province. Registrations aren't the same as hires, the union says. NBNU says only 234 were hired by Horizon and Vitalité. The union claims the majority of the newly registered professionals were actually travel nurses. The nurses’ union says it costs roughly three times as much to hire a travel nurse than a permanent full-time nurse locally.
