The Nursing Homes Without Walls program extends some services from facilities to seniors who are still living at home. It’s expected to expand to 16 locations by 2023; eight sites will offer it next spring and eight more will join next fall. All 71 nursing homes in the province were invited to express their interest in joining. The concept is unique to N.B. and was developed by the Research Centre on Aging at the Université de Moncton. The program began as a pilot project in four locations in southeastern N.B. and the Acadian Peninsula, funded under the federal-provincial initiative Healthy Seniors Pilot Project.
