New Brunswick's first registered midwives have started accepting clients in the Fredericton region. The province's midwifery demonstration site in Fredericton is managed by the Horizon Health Network. The province says midwives will give families more options when it comes to making decisions around pregnancy and childbirth. Midwives can provide comprehensive care during normal, low-risk pregnancies, labour, postpartum care, as well as the newborn period.
