Niagara Health’s prostate diagnostic assessment program sees more than 2,000 new patients per year. Since opening in 2014, there were ver 2,800 diagnoses on biopsy, with the average wait from a family doctor referral to a completed biopsy measured at 45 days. Within 30 days of a diagnosis, most patients had a multi-disciplinary visit with a urologist and radiation oncologist. An aspect of the program that’s been very well received was that patients benefit when they get to meet, on the same day, with a urologist and a radiation oncologist. Six urologists and three radiation oncologists are part of the program, which is a collaboration between Niagara Health; Walker Family Cancer Centre, urologiy, radiation and medical oncology and the departments of pathology and diagnostic imaging.
