A Corporate Research Associates survey finds the number of Atlantic Canadians who currently have a family doctor remains high, despite a slight decline over the past four years. Nearly nine in 10 Atlantic Canadians (88%, down from 91% in 2013) said they currently have a family doctor. In New Brunswick, 90% of residents (compared to 92% in 2013) said they have a family doctor, compared to 89% in Newfoundland and Labrador, 87% in Nova Scotia and 83% in Prince Edward Island. In New Brunswick's urban markets, 92% of Saint John residents, 91% of Moncton residents and 88% of Fredericton residents currently have a family doctor. This compares to 84% of Halifax residents. CRA observed that the percentage of Atlantic Canadians with a family doctor increases with age, with 93% of residents 55 years of age or older currently having a family doctor, compared with 77% of residents between the ages of 18 and 34 years.
