This incentive was previously offered to doctors in rural areas. As the shortage of family doctors worsens in Nova Scotia, the province is now offering tuition relief, the Family Medicine Bursary and debt assistance to urban doctors in a bid to attract more physicians to Nova Scotia. The three programs will also be made available to doctors working as a replacement or part-time, as well as their full-time colleagues. The province’s Tuition Relief Program repays up to $120,000 of a physician's medical school tuition in exchange for a five-year commitment to work in Nova Scotia.
