Without shared decision making amongst patients living with frailty, up to one in four cardiac surgery patients were found to regret their decision to have surgery. This knowledge emphasized the need to increase awareness and formalize education related to shared decision making. The module’s intended to increase patient-centered care so they can make more informed choices about whether to have surgery or not, to have a better understanding of the risks, benefits and alternatives and to express their preferences. In addition, NHS adds when a patient better understands what the surgery and its recovery includes, they’re more likely to follow through with the needed steps to recovery.
