As part of the province’s plan to delivers healthcare faster, the program will be rolled out in 12 pharmacies to take appointments for patients with common illnesses and for those with chronic diseases. The clinics will also offer diagnosis and treatment for strep throat. The pilot will cost the province around $1 million and pharmacies under the pilot will receive additional funding for providing added care, including assessing and prescribing for 31 minor ailments such as minor joint and muscle pains, eczema, cold sores and heartburn. There are already plans for more locations in the spring.
