The provincial government's looking at giving RNs prescribing powers, allowing NPs to order and apply defibrillation and apply ECGs, allowing pharmacists to administer certain substances by injection or inhalation and allowing chiropodists, midwives, naturopaths and optometrists to prescribe more drugs, among other expansions. The Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario says prescribing powers for RNs would be great news, as the association pushed for it for more than 10 years.
