Ontario home health provider VHA Home HealthCare is working to understand and support diversity in its workforce through an annual DEI report - one of the first of its kind for a home care organization. The report shares information gathered through a DEI survey asking staff, service providers, volunteers and Board members to respond to statements in key areas, providing feedback and demographic data. Of survey respondents, 82% identified as women and 78% indicated they were born outside of Canada. It found 73% identified as being part of a racialized group. Actions being initiated by VHA to support these communities include:

  • Education sessions and training;
  • A policy review; and
  • The development of a "Call It Out" statement to demonstrate the organization’s commitment to zero tolerance for discrimination.

The report also outlines a 2022 Action Plan to build on these efforts which includes further education and training with a focus on inclusive recruitment and promotion of knowledge building in Indigenous cultural safety.
