The Lawson Health Research Institute will test whether an AI model can automatically determine the presence of abnormal lung signals. It’s proven that the AI model is very accurate in reading stored images but this study will evaluate if the AI retains accuracy when interpreting live images generated at the beside. Although beside lung ultrasounds are commonly used in critical care to detect concerns such as infections, pneumonia or a collapsed lung, the pairing with real time diagnostic AI is a research milestone because it could expand the usage of bedside ultrasounds by letting those with no ultrasound training to use the device. Once accuracy is assured in phase 1 of the study, the second phase will assess the device with non-expert users and customized settings for in-depth diagnostics.
