NBHC Care Experience
January 01, 2019
Fifteen healthcare practitioners in the Belleville, Ont. area are taking part in an 18-month trial to determine if social prescribing is beneficial to individuals with depression, anxiety and loneliness. Similar to a program in Montreal in which doctors hand out scripts for trips to a local museum, social prescribing encourages patients to participate in an activity that brings them into contact with other people. It's believed the social aspects foster well-being and may reduce the need for other treatments, including medications.
